Spacer Image Romantic Getaways To Revitalize Your Relationship

You fell in love and hate to be apart for even a few hours. Once the honeymoon phase wears off in any relationship, reality intrudes. You quickly realize how easy it is to push the needs of the person you love to the bottom of the priority list as everyone else in the world vies for your time and attention.

Between work, kids, the house and all the other things you love to be a part of, you realize that the days of lying in bed all day and enjoying each other’s company are long past.  If you can’t even remember the last time the two of you left the house for a vacation that didn’t involve diapers, dogs or cell phones, you may be in dire need of a romantic vacation weekend.  Regardless of your budget, with the right vacation, you can re-energize both your personal self and the relationship that is at the center of your mental and emotional health.

Spa Getaway

If the word resort brings to mind palm trees, relaxing, good food and a full body massage, then you’re on the right track.  Take a spa getaway with your significant other for the weekend.  These weekends require very little planning and in just two days you will feel completely re-energized.  Take advantage of all the services the spa has to offer.  Enjoy a couple’s massage, relax in a sauna, or float in the pool with nothing more important than what drink you want to order on your mind.  Ridding your mind of all external stressors is the best way to focus your energy inward and replenish your emotional energy.  When you are full emotionally and mentally, you are much better able to give back to the one you love.  You’ll even have time for a little “you” time if you need to get your energy centered where it needs to be.

Rent a House or Condo

Just because you’ve only got a couple days to get away doesn’t mean that you can’t fully enjoy all the benefits of being on vacation.  You don’t have to spend a week on some luxury beach to be able to focus your energy where it needs to be.  It’s difficult at home to take your mind off all you could be doing and focus on your relationship.  Even date nights become difficult when you’re concerned about getting back to the sitter or how much dinner is going to cost.

Just changing up your environment can make a world of difference for the average couple.  Try renting a condo or a house somewhere a few hours away from home to allow you to enjoy a whole new environment.  When there’s no laundry to be done, no floors to be scrubbed and you don’t have to do the cooking and cleaning, it’s much easier to focus on the things that are really important.  For the best outcome, try choosing a place that doesn’t have Internet or cell phone service.  Believe it or not, the world can survive without you both for a few days.

A Quick Cruise

Most people think of cruises as ten-day vacations with pit stops all over the world.  What you may not realize is that there are small cruises that allow you to just enjoy being on vacation and relaxing on the ocean.  Although these cruises may not stop in world popular spots for you to shop and sightsee, you still get the benefit of being on vacation and enjoying a new environment.  Get away from life, get some sun, and take in a few shows on a cruise to nowhere.  You don’t need to commit to a weeklong adventure to enjoy the benefits of cruising on the ocean.

Rough it for the Weekend

If your funds are limited, and your time is short, try leaving all your worldly accessories at home and roughing it in the woods for a few days.  If he loves the outdoors and loves to fish and camp, take a good book and enjoy the pleasure of having nothing to do.  You can nap in the open and sleep under the stars.  There is nothing like getting back to the basics to make you realize what’s really important in life.  You’ll come home dirty but rejuvenated and replenished and ready to get back to the real world.

Tour the Town

Have you ever really enjoyed all that your city has to offer?  If not, visit your city’s website and make a list of fun things to do in your very own home.  Eat at new places, visit historical sites and museums and shop in areas you’ve never entered before.  You may just find that there is something under your nose that you’ve been looking for a long time.  If you can afford it, find a hotel or bed and breakfast to stay in to get you out of your regular environment, and enjoy a weekend of getting to know each other and the place you live all over again.  This is also a great idea for a family that is looking for a way to vacation at home.

Small Vacations to Replenish the Soul

With all the demands on your time and energy, it’s easy to stop taking care of you and the relationships that are important to you.  You may think you’re doing fine until you remove yourself from your regular environment and realize how low on mental energy you’ve become.  Even the smallest of vacations can improve your mental health and give you a chance to replenish energy that is vital to all your important relationships.  You can’t give back to those you love unless you take care of yourself first.
